2003-12-13 [[Luis Alberto Perez]] w pts 12 [[Felix Machado]], Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Wayne Hedgepeth. Scorecards: 115-113, 117-111, 119-109. Ending the year as he had begun it, Perez (114) outpointed Machado (115), only now he was defending the title not challenging. This time round it was more conclusive as the champion took control in the third round, showing more aggression than his rival who was mainly looking to steal points, and nearly finished the fight in the eighth when right-lefts almost put Machado down and out. Although the ropes saved Machado on that occasion, the assault had taken a lot out of him and he spent the rest of the contest intent on survival.
