The southpaw champion, defending his title for the ninth time, skilfully outpointed the hard-punching Nakanuma (112) and was quite happy at times to swap blows with his rival as he confirmed his superiority. Picking his punches well, Wonjongkam (112) came under pressure several times, notably in the fourth, fifth and eighth rounds, but remained unruffled even in the 12th session as Nakanuma went all out for victory.
