2004-02-08 Yodsanan Sornantachai w rsc 7 Ryuhei Sugita, Memorial Centre, Gifu, Japan - WBA. Referee: Derek Milham. Making his first defence since being awarded the title, Sornantachai (130) quickly got into his stride, scoring with heavy combination prior to dropping Sugita (129½) in the second round with a cracking southpaw right hook. Back in the fight, Sugita began to prove an elusive target, even scoring with straight rights as Sornantachai walked in, but after being sent reeling into the ropes having been hurt by a barrage of punches in the seventh the Thai was rescued by the referee with 11 seconds of the session remaining.
