2004-07-17 Juan Diaz w pts 12 Lakva Sim, Reliant Arena, Houston, Texas, USA - WBA. Referee: Laurence Cole. Scorecards: 118-110, 116-112, 118-111. Setting a fast pace from the opening bell, the challenger was soon jolting Sim (135) with solid jabs and combinations and although the latter took everything going his way without flinching he lacked the speed to get on top of his opponent. Occasionally, Sim would smash in blows of his own, but Diaz (134¾) merely kept busy, working away to head and body with all manner of punches that often left the Mongolian in a confused state. While some of the rounds were close, Diaz always seemed to have the edge and despite Sim taking the seventh on the cards, when turning southpaw to nail the youngster with several good deliveries, he was unable to turn the tide.
