2004-09-20 [[Katsushige Kawashima]] w pts 12 [[Raul Juarez]], Bunka Gym, Yokohama, Japan - WBC. Referee: Bill Clancy. Scorecards: 114-110, 113-111, 117-107. The newly crowned hard-punching Kawashima (115) made a good start in his first defence and floored Juarez (114¼) with a smashing overarm right in the second round to show his intent. Back in the fray and despite being unable to hurt Kawashima the durable Juarez made life difficult for the champion as he looked for the finishing punch. Dropped twice, in the sixth and seventh rounds, and also having a point deducted for spitting out his gumshield in the seventh failed to deter Juarez, who staggered Kawashima in the eighth and won two of the last three sessions before going down on the cards.
