2005-02-05 Zab Judah w rsc 9 Cory Spinks, Savvis Centre, St Louis, Missouri, USA - IBF/WBA/WBC/The Ring. Referee: Armando Garcia. Gaining revenge for the defeat Spinks (147) inflicted on him five months earlier and, at the same time, taking over the latter’s three titles, Judah (146) proved emphatically that he was the better man on the night. He also won The Ring magazine’s championship belt. Making a good start in this battle of southpaws and having decided that speed was in his favour, Judah was soon beating Spinks to the jab and getting out again. Judah was travelling so fast, Spinks just couldn’t find him. Although it looked as though Judah was possibly fading in the fifth and sixth he came back strongly in the seventh when he appeared to have dropped Spinks with a left cross-right hook, but the referee failed to recognise it as a knockdown, stating that the bell had already sounded. By the ninth, however, Judah had taken over completely and after landing punch after punch to put Spinks down when the latter got to his feet he was chased, lurching along the ropes before being rescued by the referee with 11 seconds of the session remaining.
