2005-07-18 Masamori Tokuyama w pts 12 Katsushige Kawashima, Central Gym, Osaka, Japan - WBC. Referee: Ian John-Lewis. Scorecards: 118-109, 115-112, 117-110. Trying to reverse his shocking one-round defeat at the hands of Kawashima (114¾), the former champion started well, especially with the jab and left-right combinations, and soon began to pick up the points. This time round, Tokuyama (115) was proving a more difficult proposition for the somewhat pedestrian Kawashima to handle, his speed and movement being a decisive factor. After taking the first six rounds, Tokuyama started to tire and began to get caught by overarm rights and left hooks before cleverly turning to hit-and-hold tactics to defuse the situation as Kawashima went for broke. Eventually, in the 12th, Tokuyama was put down by a countering right and had to hang on for all his worth as Kawashima looked to turn things around, but he remained upright to regain the title as the latter missed time and again with wild swings.
