On 16 September 2006, Barrios (131½) forfeited the WBO title when failing to make the weight for a title defence against Joan Guzman at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite that, the fight went ahead and following a 12-round points win, Guzman (129) was proclaimed the new champion.
