2007-12-08 Brahim Asloum w pts 12 Juan Carlos Reveco, Sports Palace, Le Cannet, France - WBA. Referee: Russell Mora. Scorecards: 115-113, 116-113, 116-112.

On 26 July 2008 at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Giovani Segura outpointed Cesar Canchila over 12 rounds to win the vacant WBA ‘interim’ title. Segura successfully defended the WBA ‘interim’ title against the same opponent at the FEX Stockade, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on 14 March 2009, when winning by a fourth-round stoppage.

With Asloum now recognised by the WBA as a 'champion in recess', Segura vacated the ‘interim’ title on being elevated to ‘second tier’ champion status on 5 June 2009, and made a successful defence when stopping Juanito Rubillar in the sixth round on 25 July 2009 at the Tepic Fair Stockade, Nueno Vallarta, Mexico.

Following that, Reveco became the new ‘interim’ champion when he outpointed Francisco Rosas over 12 rounds on 15 August 2009 at the Miguel Canto Municipal Arena, Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

When Asloum retired on 6 September 2009, Segura automatically became recognised as the main titleholder and would make his first defence against Sonny Boy Jaro.
