On 31 May 2008, [[Oscar Larios]] stopped [[Feider Viloria]] in the fifth round at the Convention Centre, Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico to win the vacant WBC ‘interim’ title. Larios successfully defended his honours on 2 August 2008 when stopping [[Marlon Aguilar]] inside seven rounds at the Benito Juarez Auditorium, Zapapan, Jalisco, Mexico. When Linares relinquished the WBC title on 13 August 2008 in order to fight at a higher weight Larios was appointed champion.
