2007-12-15 Jorge Linares w co 8 Gamaliel Diaz, The Bullring, Cancun, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Laurence Cole. Linares was defending the title that was handed to him after it was relinquished by In-Jin Chi.

On 31 May 2008, Oscar Larios stopped Feider Viloria in the fifth round at the Convention Centre, Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico to win the vacant WBC ‘interim’ title. Larios successfully defended his honours on 2 August 2008 when stopping Marlon Aguilar inside seven rounds at the Benito Juarez Auditorium, Zapapan, Jalisco, Mexico. When Linares relinquished the WBC title on 13 August 2008 in order to fight at a higher weight Larios was appointed champion.
