2009-04-04 Timothy Bradley w pts 12 Kendall Holt, Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada - WBC/WBO. Referee: Michael Griffin. Scorecards: 114-112, 115-111, 115-111.

On 25 April at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum, Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Lamont Peterson won the vacant WBO ‘interim’ title when stopping Willy Blain in the seventh round. Peterson would forfeit his ‘interim’ title when losing to Bradley for the main belt on 12 December.

Bradley was stripped of the WBC title on 28 April when unable to agree terms to meet their number-one challenger, Devon Alexander. Alexander had been due to meet Junior Witter for the WBC ‘interim’ belt, a contest that was re-billed as being for the vacant title.
