Mabuza had beaten [[Kendall Holt]] (w rtd 6 at Bally’s Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey on 27 February 2010) in an eliminator to get his chance, while Judah had recently outpointed [[Lucas Martin Matthysse]].

Alexander forfeited his IBF belt on 22 October for not being prepared to make a defence against their number-one contender, Kaizer Mabuza, who was then matched against Zab Judah for the vacant title. Mabuza had beaten Kendall Holt (w rtd 6 at Bally’s Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey on 27 February 2010) in an eliminator to get his chance, while Judah had recently outpointed Lucas Martin Matthysse.
