On 30 October, Raul Garcia won the vacant WBO ‘interim’ title when outpointing Luis De La Rosa over 12 rounds at the Convention Centre, Cartagena, Colombia.

In 2011, on 25 February, just two weeks before he was due to defend his title against Garcia, Nietes relinquished the title on having difficulty making the weight and the latter was upgraded to full championship status.
