2010-08-14 Donnie Nietes w pts 12 Mario Rodriguez, Luis Estrada Medina Auditorium, Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico - WBO. Referee: Raul Caiz. Scorecards: 119-109, 118-110, 116-112.

On 30 October, Raul Garcia won the vacant WBO ‘interim’ title when outpointing Luis De La Rosa over 12 rounds at the Convention Centre, Cartagena, Colombia.

In 2011, on 25 February, just two weeks before he was due to defend against Garcia, Nietes relinquished the title on having difficulty making the weight, and the 'interim' title holder was upgraded to full championship status.
