On 2 July, Jonathan Barros outpointed Celestino Caballero at the Sports Colony, Junin, Mendoza, Argentina to make a successful defence of his ‘second tier’ title. A few days later, the so-called WBA ‘interim’ title was deemed to be non-existant after Yuriorkis Gamboa signed to meet the WBO’s Daniel Ponce De Leon. The WBA ‘second tier’ title changed hands on 14 October when Caballero outpointed Barros over 12 rounds at the Luna Park Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina, this gaining revenge for a previous defeat.
