2011-10-22 Nonito Donaire w pts 12 Omar Narvaez, WaMu Theatre, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBC/WBO. Referee: Benji Estevez Jr. Scorecards: 120-108, 120-108, 120-108.

On 6 November, Shinsuke Yamanaka stopped Christian Esquivel inside 11 rounds at the Yoyogi Gym, Tokyo, Japan to win what should be seen as the WBC ‘second tier’ title. Although billed for the title after Donaire stated that he would be moving up a division, when the contest took place the latter had not confirmed his decision.

It was clear that Donaire was going to move on and after signing for a fight against Wilfredo Vazquez for the WBO junior featherweight crown, he relinquished both of his titles on 24 November.

Following the announcement, the WBC appointed Yamanaka as their undisputed champion, while a return match between Jorge Arce, who dropped down a division, and Angky Angkota would go ahead for the vacant WBO title.
