1902-04-19Jack McClelland37-4-14
Mutual Street Rink, Toronto, Ontario, CanadaDPTS320
referee: John R. Bennett
Fought at 126lbs. Early in the third round, the fight was stopped on the orders of Deputy Chief of Police Stewart and ruled a draw by Referee Bennett. It had been a very good fight up to that point, and Bennett tried to talk the Deputy out of stopping it, but his mind could not be changed. The fighters began arguing with each other after the stoppage, and had to be pulled apart by their seconds. "They were cautioned repeatedly not to hit in the clinches, but they disregarded the warnings." - Globe & Mail.

128lbs. Ryan was a late sub for Jack McClelland. Ryan dropped Callahan in the 13th and 17th rounds. "Though Referee Bennett made it a draw at the end, Ryan should have received the decision." The Globe called it the worst decision "ever handed out by the club's official."
