However, Greb won the newspaper decision according to the Buffalo Boxing Record and the Pittsburgh Post. According to the Post, "Greb piled up a 'nice margin' over the first 6 rounds. He 'hit Brennan with everything' and nearly floored him in the 2nd round. He became wild and Brennan made up some ground in the last four rounds. However, Greb had a margin at the end."

The Post said that Greb and Brennan put on a sizzling fight, "action from gong to gong, amid thunderous applause from a vast crowd of fans." Brennan fought "desperately and wickedly." They were on even terms for the first five rounds, but Brennan faded in the last five and Greb punched hard to the body. Brennan was in serious trouble in round 7.
