referee: James Brennan
Ritchie was down in the 2nd round.
At 3 p.m. Leonard weighed in at 136 pounds, and Ritchie at 138 1/2 pounds, and at ringside each was a pound heavier.
Referee James Brennan stopped the bout with 40 seconds left to go in the contest to save Ritchie from "further punishment." Ritchie "couldn't come back." But he "sustained his defeat in glorious fashion.... Ritchie was defending himself in dazed fashion against the wildly plunging and swinging champion. The latter lost his head completely, and at one time swung so wildly that he almost swung himself to the canvas... Ritchie apparently is through. There can be little doubt of that, for he was badly beaten last night, but fans who saw the bout never will cease to bestow praise on the fighting heart of such a man." (From Tacoma Daily News, of the national wire report.)

Olympia A.C., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USAWNWS66
"Ritchie was hog fat and wore a wide sash over his stomach that extended almost to his armpits. The announcement was made that they were boxing at catch-weights. Ritchie looked to weight about 150 pounds while McAndrews would scale in the neighborhood of 10 pounds less. Ritchie fought so fast that he carried the local lad off his feet and fairly rained punches on him. Just before the end of the bout Ritchie staggered McAndrews with a hard smash to the jaw." Newark Advocate) The Philadelphia Public Ledger gave its newspaper decision in favor of Ritchie. The Philadelphia Record called the fight a draw.

New Orleans A.C., New Orleans, Louisiana, USADNWS1010
referee: Dr. James Barnes
This was the only bout on the card that was no-decision. Ritchie won the newspaper decision according to the New Orleans Daily Picayune (Luckett Davis), which stated that the bout was fairly even up until the final round, when Ritchie cut loose, hurt Mandot and secured the newspaper verdict. The New Orleans Item had Mandot winning 5-3 in rounds, two even. It stated that Mandot had a good lead after the ninth and that Ritchie's furious last round rally gave him a draw- "After all was over Joe had a very slight shade, but a draw looks the right decision." Referee Barnes thought Mandot had a shade, but would have called it a draw had he rendered a decision.
