World Welterweight Title
Taylor reportedly entered the bout with a 23-fight professional record, however this figure was based on his incomplete record in the The Ring Record Book, and he actually had engaged in several more fights than 23. Taylor made an aggressive and plucky fight of it, but he was outclassed. He took a nine-count in round six but arose, only to be put down again and the referee then stopped the fight.
