"The end came suddenly..There was a short flurry and then down went the American on his back, to roll about until counted out...His seconds entered the ring and carried Maxie to his corner, amid claims that a foul blow had been struck...It was (soon) made plain to everyone that the claim of a low blow had been disallowed." Milligan is the European Middleweight Champion at this time. "Walker floored Milligan in the seventh round, the European champion was down for a count of seven the first time and needed nine after the second knowckdown before he was able to regain his feet. He managed to get by the round, however. Milligan showed great recuperative power and came back strong enough in the eighth to hold Walker off and make a contest of it.... A right to the jaw was the deciding blow.... Milligan went down for the fifth and last time." (Associated Press)

"Men and women stood upon chairs and yelled themselves hoarse in acclaiming Levine. Milligan, true sportsman that he is, quietly added his congratulations to those of the crowd, crossing the ring and gripping Levine heartly by the hand without a murmur of protest." (New York Times, March 3, 1926, p. 15.) Judges: James Gearon & C. W. Dingee.
