referee: Tony LaBranch | judge: Charley Bill | judge: Herb Williams
The decision was unpopular. Henry got off to a good lead, but most of the spectators thought that Wright had more than overcome his early disadvantage.

Coliseum, Baltimore, Maryland, USALTKO1010
referee: Eddie Leonard
"It was a fine bout..Wright's superior boxing won the first, second, and third rounds. Then Gavilan began to warm up and won the middle rounds by his harder punching and..aggressivness. Wright again took the lead in the eighth and ninth. After the tenth had barely started Gavilan landed a smashing overhand right which caught Wright on the chin and dumped him for a five count. After Wright arose, (the referee) stopped the mill." (The Ring, February 1948, page 54)

Both the Pittsburgh Press and Post-Gazette put the blame on the safety-first boxing of hometown boy Wright for this being a dull bout. But both also called the draw decision appropriate.
