|"Lou Grinnegen of this city ... It was said Howard was drunk. In the second round he hit Grennegen when the latter was on his knees, then got down and pounded and kicked him in the face and ribs. The seconds attempted to interfere and he began to crack away at them right and left. He danced around on the platform smashing every one within his range. A friend of Grinnegen's, angry at the way he was treated, tried to get on the stage, and the fighting Howard went at him. He tackled everything from the ropes to the referee, and wound up by shaking hands with his man and bounding from the ring." (Sporting News)|
