Rocky Point, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USAWRTD7
Results from The Boston Daily Globe 4/30/1887. This bout took place on a rainy night in the outdoor location which would become famous three months later as the site of the Ike Weir-Jack Havlin battle. The bout was fought observing Queensbury rules and was to the finish. Hostilities commenced at 1:28 am. Bosworth was game throughout, but Ashton's wicked body blows proved the difference as he wore Bosworth down, flooring him twice in the fifth round and twice more in the sixth. Bosworth had to be carried to his corner. The referee stopped the bout before the start of round 7.
