Although a no-decision bout, Martin's title would be at risk if he lost inside schedule.
Newspaper decision from the Boston Globe. In Maine, bouts were limited to six rounds and the fighters met in two successive matches. (New York Times).

A charity contest. The crowd booed new bantam champion Martin from the start of the fight for "loafing." It soon became apparent to all that both boxers were not trying, so the referee called them back to their corners and declared the bout "no contest." He then lodged a complaint with the NYSAC, which a week later suspended both boxers until Feb. 1.
