1930-03-06Jimmy Rowbotham35-8-5
Premierland, Whitechapel, London, United KingdomLDQ715
referee: Jack Hart
'Midway through the 5th, a fine right uppercut put the Brum down for "9". It was a staggering punch, and when Jimmy rose he was an easy target for a following right, which put him down again for "9". Rowbotham just managed to beat the count, but was too weak to avoid the smashing right to the stomach just as the bell rang. Pattenden then went all out, and Rowbotham was in a bad way. He went down again in the 6th, and Pat looked a 100 to 1 winner. Retreating in the 7th, Rowbotham slipped at the very moment that Pat let loose an uppercut. If Rowbotham had not slipped down the punch would not have landed. As it was, it went home just as Rowbotham touched the floor. Jack Hart spun Pattenden round and somewhat sternly sent him to his corner - disqualified. Jack Goodwin's [Pattenden's trainer's] thoughts and words cannot be printed.' Boxing, Racing, and Football, 12 March 1930.
