Referee Hen Lewis stopped the fight in round four. Lewis afterwards stated that "I was convinced by their showing that the two fighters had made an agreement between themselves, and I don't think even their managers or anyone else were aware of the agreement." In retrospect, this doesn't seem to hold water. Even before the fight it had been stated that DeMarco's style would give Petrolle trouble.
