Jose Lombardo should not be confused with Kid Lombardo (Aurelio Mosquera) of Peru, who fought as a featherweight to welterweight, and who had a long career in the 1920s and 1930s. The Smith fight was Jose Lombardo's professional debut. His Panamanian and South American fights of Jose Lombardo were compiled by Luckett Davis from reports in the Panama Star & Herald. Fights in the United States were verified from the New York Times and various other newspapers and based on his published record in the 1923 to 1928 editions of the EVERLAST BOXING RECORD.
