"McPartland landed with left to body and right to jaw and had King staggering. He ran in to land a finishing blow when Referee Geo. English stepped between the fighters and pushed McPartland away. He then raised King's limp arm in the air and declared him winner on a foul. Just where the foul came in was a mystery to the spectators and they began hooting and jeering English and cheering McPartland. King showed he was no match for McPartland who bewildered him with clever feinting and leading." (Durango Democrat)
