Levinsky's purse was withheld while the state athletic commission investigated his conduct in the ring. Chairman Joseph Triner thought that Levinsky had showed little respect for Referee Collins. Levinsky shoved Collins about the ring and on one occasion reached over the official's shoulder for a punch at Griffith(s). Griffith claimed to have suffered a fracture of his right thumb early in the bout. Griffith was down in the 3rd and 7th rounds, but arose immediately each time.
