Dynamite was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery due to a cerebral hemorrhage and a basal skull fracture, after his head hit the canvas following a 10th round knockdown. He remained unconscious for over 80 hours before recovering. He was from the Dutch West Indies and years later returned to the ring and fought there several times.
