1935-10-02Gustave Humery65-16-1
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, United KingdomWTKO810x3
“…Down for four counts of 9 sec. And one of 8 sec., saved once only by the timekeeper’s bell, and at least half-a-dozen times battered to a standstill against the ropes, Mizler had the good fortune and ability to land suddenly on Humery’s jaw with a swift left-right… The deafening roar, almost shriek, of a crowd quick to seize upon the faintest hope for their man, already a hero for surviving so long, may have helped Mizler to realize at once the wonder he had performed. He still might have lost the fight, however, if he had not kept his head and balance perfectly, and followed up the left-right with a series of swift upper-cuts and hooks that gave Humery no chance to recover. Humery was iron-barked enough to remain on his feet, but he was now dazed by the rain of blows and blinded by their effects. To all intents he was “out”, though no count was possible, and the only proper course was the throwing in of a towel.” The Times, Oct 3rd 1935.
