This was the second fight for Shires, a professional baseball player for the Chicago White Sox. Trafton, the center for the Chicago Bears professional football team, knocked Shires down in round one and gave him a bad beating. However, "as a fight it was pure farce." The fighters were awkward and inexperienced, and stumbled about at times. Also, there was a lot of mauling and clinching. The Arena was packed to suffocation.
