Shortly after the final round started, Jones ripped through the Texan's defenses and connected with a lusty right to the jaw. Dykes fell into the ropes and sagged to the canvas. Badly hurt, he used the ropes to pull himself up at nine." (The Ring, May 1954, page 45) Dykes was put down again for an automatic eight-count and the referee stopped it.
