1976-10-02 : Guty Espadas beat Alfonso Lopez by TKO at 2:28 in round 13 of 15
- Location: Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA
- Referee: Rudy Jordan
"Alfonso Lopez, 109, built up a lead with a sharp punching attack, but in the 12th round, a single right hand from Guty Espadas, 109 1/2 put Lopez down with 19 seconds left in the round. He got up but went down from a left-right combo and the bell sounded before the end of the mandatory 8 count. Espadas came out for the kill in the 13th. Although his own right eye was swollen nearly shut from the sharp punches of the Panamanian, Espadas bloodied Lopez' nose and a left put the champ down again. This time Lopez took the count on one knee. When he went down seconds later, he took the count on both knees, but again he was up. The fifth knockdown of the fight appeared as much from exhaustion as from the Espadas punches and referee Rudy Jordan called a halt at 2:28 of the 13th round at the Sports Arena." -Associated Press
