Andreas Tews is an outstanding former German boxer at the amateur level. Competing for East Germany, in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Tews won the silver medal in the Flyweight class, after losing to Kwang Sun Kim of South Korea. At the 1992 Barcelona Games, now representing the unified Germany, Tews, would win the gold medal in the Featherweight class, by defeating Faustino Reyes of Spain in the final.

Tews who never boxed professionally, is currently a trainer at Gymnasium Rahlstedt in Hamburg, Germany.
