Arnoldo Pares was an Argentinian boxer, who competed in the Bantamweight class at the 1948 London Olympiad. Pares had a very difficult time coming in at the 118 pound limit, prior to the start of the competition. His handlers shaved his head, and even went as far as inducing him to cry, in an attempt to lose weight. However, Pares was still unable to make the weight limit, which led to the Argentinian team filing a protest. It was determined after an investigation that the scales were inaccurate, and Pares was allowed to compete. In his first round bout, Pares defeated Vic Toweel of South Africa. In his second bout he was defeated by Jimmy Carruthers of Australia.
