Bobby McHugh was a Greater Lowell, MA. and New England Golden Glove Champion. While serving in the U.S. Army (1952-1954) he did not lose a fight, scoring 18 consecutive knockouts. He won the All Far East Welterweight Tournament in Toyko, Japan in 1954 and was named the Outstanding Fighter. McHugh fought professionally as a lightweight from 1955 – 1958. He was named The Ring Lightweight Prospect of the Month in November 1955. He retired from boxing in 1959 with a record of 19-0-0, 14 wins by knockout (although some sources report 22-0-0), to spend more time with his growing family.
