  • Location: Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, California, USA
  • Referee: Ray Corona

In an upset, heavyweight Demetrice King of Flint, Michigan, scored a second round stoppage of previous unbeaten Bowie Tupou, a Tongan now fighting out of Los Angeles, California. Both fighters traded bombs from the opening bell, and Tupou, 27, now 18-1 with 14 KOs, was knocked to the canvas from a counter right thrown from King pinned on the ropes. Tupou arose as the bell sounded to end round one. When round two started, King continued to trade, and Tupou was knocked down again. Tupou arose but was defenseless, and King landed a nonstop barrage of accurate head shots, forcing referee Ray Corona to stop the bout at 0:52. Veteran King, 24, 15-17 with 13 KOs had been stopped only once in 32 bouts, by contender Shannon Briggs.
