Here's a list of the adjectival forms of place names.--Emaster 20:40, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Discrepancies between BoxRec and its encyclopaedia

Each of the following world champions is attributed two nationalities in the encyclopaedia; in BoxRec they are only attributed the respective first-mentioned nationalities:

The following champions are attributed the respective first-mentioned nationalities in BoxRec and the respective last-mentioned nationalities in the encyclopaedia:

I'd propose that the category (or categories) in which a champion is included match his BoxRec nationality (or nationalities). Thus, the encyclopaedia would not state other or more nationalities than BoxRec. If attributing multiple nationalities to boxers was desirable, BoxRec would have to be enabled to show more than one nationalty.--Emaster 20:52, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

The following text refers to a former remark of mine that "the decision which nationality a boxer is allotted should be made in BoxRec."--Emaster

In theory, that would make sense, except that the BoxRec database is quite puzzling with regard to the nationality of its boxers. For example, both Joachim Alcine and Jean Pascal moved from Haiti to Canada when they were kids, both have Canadian citizenship, and both fight out of Canada for a Canadian promoter (GYM). The database lists Alcine's nationality as Haitian, and Pascal's as Canadian. There's just no way to reconcile that. I could give you a number of other examples

Otis Grant for example, moved from Jamaica to Canada when he was 7 years old. He's listed as Jamaican. His brother Howard Grant, who's in exactly the same situation, is listed as Canadian.

I don't have a problem with boxers being listed as champions for different nationalities as long as a decent case can be made for each (place of birth, citizenship or permanent resident status).

Just my two cents.--Reenthelawman 14:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

By the way, please let me know when the editors make their decision. I might need to remove Otis Grant, Joachim Alcine, Lucian Bute, and Adrian Diaconu from the Canadian World Champions category.

Thanks again. --Reenthelawman 15:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
