  • In his childhood, Pical was a natural diver, a diver in the sea without any diving equipment, collecting pearls for a living.
  • Pical's nickname "The Exocet" was given by the press referring to his left hand KO killer puncher. "Exocet" itself comes from the popular missile used by England during the Falkland war which was exploding during Pical's era. (Learn about Exocet). He got his title with this single exocet left punch to knock out the defending champion Ju Do Chun.
  • Ellyas Pical is the first world champion from Indonesia, and the second man of the country who ever fought for a world title shot -- after Thomas Americo, who was defeated by Saoul Mamby in Jakarta, Indonesia, 1981 for the WBC super lightweight title.
  • Today (2005), Pical lives peacefully with his dentist wife Rina Siahaya Pical and his sons Lorinly and Matthew.
  • Pical was caught in the act selling drugs to some undercover policemen in a discotheque in Jakarta, September, 2005. He was then sentenced by 7 months prison, and was then released on February 7, 2006. This was shocking news to many Indonesians, as Pical had a reputation as a clean living and religious man.
  • Pical currently works as a staff in the KONI - Indonesian Olympic Committee (2006 - ...).
  • Was stripped during his second reign as IBF super flyweight champion for challenging Khaosai Galaxy, then WBA super flyweight champion
