Joop Kruis vs. Thor Erik Hognrö (1st meeting)
1967-11-13 : Joop Kruis beat Thor Erik Hognro by PTS in round 6 of 6
- Location: Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Norwegian middleweight Thor Hognerud (6-4-0) visited Amsterdam and took on local Joop Kruis (4-1-0) in a 6 rounder. The Norwegian strongman pressed forward with two-fisted attacks while the Dutchman stung his opponent with sharp fast left jabs. In the 3rd round, a hard right from the visitor dropped Kruis and it all seemed over. The referee stopped counting at 9, talked to the fallen Kruis while Hognerud's cornerman was climbing into the ring. Kruis rose and got the OK to continue. With an excellent jab and footwork he survived the round. For the rest of the fight he kept the Norwegian at bay with jabs and series of hooks and uppercuts and won deservedly on points.
A rematch was set for Oslo some three weeks later, Hognerud gaining revenge.
