2012-07-14 : Fernando Guerrero 162 lbs beat Jose Medina 162 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Fernando Guerrero versus Jose Medina Ten Round Middleweight Bout

  • Fought as the preliminary bout to the Amir Khan versus Danny Garcia WBC-WBA title bout main event in Las Vegas
  • First bout for Fernando Guerrero since dropping weight to light middleweight and getting stopped by Grady Brewer. Medina had lost a 12 rounder several months earlier to Bronco McKart.

Guerrero briefly dropped Medina with a left hook late in the second round. Medina beat the count quickly and then held for the bell. Between rounds, Medina indicated to his corner he was not hurt. Guerrero landing many straight jabs by volume. After a few rounds, Medina took his counterattack to the body of Guerrero, but did not score often. It can be said Medina took more than a few good shots. Guerrero appeared to win every round, though Medina had a good chin and defense and remained 'in the house' for all ten rounds. One judge gave Medina one round. But the bout was closer than scoring indicated. Both fighters were in top condition and fought a world class ten round bout. Veteran Medina gave a good accounting of himself better than what would be indicated by his 17-11- 1 record. Medina demonstrated superior foot movement in not offering Guerrero a consistent target. Both fighters opened up offensively wild late in round ten, and Medina landed several decent power shots on Guerrero, but Guerrero was not bothered by them and countered Medina with some good hard shots. Medina held on for the final bell.
