Frankie Gavin knocked down Jason Welborn in the seventh and earned a stoppage seconds later to retain his British Welterweight Title in the main event in Walsall, England.
Gavin, who controlled the fight throughout, dropped Welborn (11-2) to knee for a six-count early in Round 7. The champion pressed the action following the knockdown and earned a stoppage win as referee Ian John-Lewis waved an end to the bout at 2:35 with Welborn against the ropes, taking punishment, and on his way down again.
Welborn proved a game opponent, but was over matched against the speed and boxing skills of Gavin (15-0). By the end of the second, Welborn had begun to bleed from the nose and following Round 4 had a cut to his lower lip.
