George Finnegan, an American, won the Olympic Gold Medal in the Flyweight class (47.63 kg / 105 lb) at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, defeating the only other boxer in the competition, American Miles Burke stopping him in the 1st round.

That same day (September 22nd), Finnegan was stopped in the 3rd round by Oliver Kirk, in the Bantamweight class (52.16 kg / 115 lb). Finnegan and Kirk, were the only two boxers competing, so Finnegan was awarded the silver medal,

Finnegan is one of four boxers to win two medals in the same Olympics. Harry Spanger, Charles Mayer, and James (Jack) Egan, were the others.
