1990-03-22 : Jeff Lampkin 188¼ lbs beat Glenn McCrory 189½ lbs by KO at 2:20 in round 3 of 12

Journeyman Jeff Lampkin from Youngstown, Ohio, dropped champion Glenn McCrory with a short left to the liver in the third round to win the IBF Cruiserweight Title in Gateshead, England.

Lampkin in his 47th fight and first world title shot, jumped for joy and rolled across the ring as the referee counted McCrory out at 2:20 of the third.

Lampkin won it with one punch - a brutal, close-range left hand below the right rib cage just above McCrory's red trucks. McCrory grimaced and backed away before dropping to a knee. He remained on a knee holding his right side while his face twisted in pain, before going to all fours as the referee reached the count of ten.

The capacity crowd that had come to cheer on McCrory's second title defense sat numb. The defeated champion slumped in the ring while being attended to by doctors and Lampkin wrapped himself in the American flag.
