Herbert G. Goldman was managing editor of The Ring magazine from 1978 to 1987, and he edited the last three editions of the famed Ring Record Book and Encyclopedia. When Bert Sugar revived Boxing Illustrated in 1988, Goldman became the magazine's associate editor. He became editor-in-chief in 1995 and remained at Boxing Illustrated until 1999, when it became Boxing Digest.
Goldman is not only a boxing historian, he is also a respected historian and biographer of the American theater. He graduated from the New York High School of the Performing Arts, and has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Brooklyn College in the history and criticism of the theater.
Goldman's books include Jolson: The Legend Comes to Life and Boxing: A Worldwide Record of Bouts and Boxers.
