In 1946 Herschel Acton won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at lightweight by decision vs. Joe Rima of Kansas City, MO.

1946 won the Intercity Golden Gloves' championship at lightweight vs. Maecelo Pacheo at 2.20 of the first.

1948 won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at lightweight by decision vs. Wallace (Bud) Smith.

1952 won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at welterweight by decision vs. Homer Clees of Roswell, MN.

Acton was Oklahoma Lightweight Champion 1946,1948, 1949. In 1949 he was fighting out of Central State University in Oklahoma.

By 1952 he was fighting amateur out of San Diego.
