Hymie Miller, brother of fellow boxers Abie and Benny Miller, was the 1928 National AAU Flyweight champion, representing the United States in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympiad. He lost in the first round of the flyweight class to Marcel Sartos of Belgium. The 16-year old Miller had thought he was an easy winner over Santos, and was sent to tears when the decision was announced in Santos's favor. The U.S. boxing team was so outraged that they requested permission to withdraw the whole boxing team from the Games. The president of the United States Olympic Committee, Major-General Douglas MacArthur, denied their request, stating, "Americans never quit." Source: The Complete Book of the Olympics
